Shopian: The Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta today chaired a meeting of the District Environmental Plan Committee to review the implementation of various environmental measures across the district.

During the meeting, the DC directed all departments to ensure strict prohibition of polythene usage and emphasized the importance of waste segregation and disposal at designated composite sites.

He instructed municipal authorities and rural development department to ensure that no waste accumulates in front of educational institutions, hospitals,public places and along roads.

Furthermore, proper disposal of biomedical waste was stressed to maintain public health and sanitation.

To enhance environmental hygiene, MC, Jal Shakti, Irrigation & Flood Control Departments were directed to undertake massive cleaning drives of nallahs and water channels in both urban and rural areas to prevent blockages and maintain ecological balance.

DC also called for the installation of dustbins at key locations to facilitate proper waste disposal.

Various other environment measures were also discussed for implementation by the concerned departments including the construction of Effluent, Solid and plastic waste treatment plants across the district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz,
Xen PHE, CMO, DPO, DIO, CHO, CAO, DSO, Tehsildars, BDO, Shopian and other concerned were present.
