Shopian : District Election Officer (DEO) Shopian, Shishir Gupta on Thursday held an interaction session with representatives of various political parties at Mini Secretariat here to discuss mechanism aimed at strengthening the electoral process in the district.
Various issues including conduct of monthly meetings for discussing election matters, appointment of BLAs for polling stations, submission of details of party offices, promoting ethical voting and rationalisation of polling stations were discussed and proposals sought from them on rationalisation of Polling stations along with list of Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
During the meeting, the DEO said that participation of political parties is crucial in strengthening the electoral processes at the ground level viz a viz purification of Electoral Roll, promotion of ethical voting, ensuring voter literacy and education.
DEO advised all the recognised political parties to identify and appoint BLAs in all polling stations to assist the BLOs in summary revision and provide suggestions for more efficient electoral management.
On the occasion, Dy.DEO, Jahanger Ahmad informed the representatives of political parties about ECI instructions on various other electoral processes. He encouraged them to coordinate actively with EROs and AEROs for any concerns.
They were also encouraged to promote ethical voting among the voters, support BLOs in registering of new voters and endorse voters literacy and awareness.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, ACR, Shakoor Ahmad Dar,DIO Shopian,representatives of various national and regional political parties.
