DC G’bal discusses measures for environment conservation at Zojila Pass

Ganderbal: Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to discuss measures for ensuring environmental conservation at Zojila Pass.
During the deliberations, the DC conducted a comprehensive review of traffic regulation, measures for safeguarding environment as well as unauthorized commercial activities at Zero Point, Zojila Pass.
In view of recent judgement of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, it was decided that the operation of snow bikes, sledges and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) at Zero Point, Zojila Pass will be strictly prohibited in order to protect the fragile ecosystem of the area.
Furthermore, the district administration has planned a large-scale cleanliness drive at Zero Point in the first week of April to ensure the area remains pristine.
SSP Traffic was requested to implement proper traffic management strategies to prevent congestion, while the Police and Forest Department will work in coordination to curb unauthorized commercial activities at Zero Point.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on the importance of strict enforcement of these measures to maintain ecological balance and ensure smooth traffic movement along the pass.
The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, CEO Sonamarg Development Authority, ACR Ganderbal, SDM Kangan, DFO Sindh Forest Division, DFO Wildlife, Officer Commanding Beacon, and other officials.
