As per news agency JKNS, designers Shivan and Narresh posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We deeply regret any hurt caused by our recent presentation in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramadan. Our sole intention was to celebrate creativity and the ski & après-ski lifestyle, without any desire to offend anyone or any religious sentiments.”

They further added, “Respect for all cultures and traditions is at our heart, and we acknowledge the concerns raised. We sincerely apologize for any unintended discomfort and appreciate the feedback from our community. We remain committed to being more mindful and respectful.”

The statement has sparked further reactions, with many people expressing concerns over the event.

A user on X, Mir Muneeb, commented, “There is something called Ethical Relativity and Cultural Sanctity. Not just the holy month, this act wouldn’t be acceptable in any month in this sacred land of saints and sages.”

Another concerned user, Ahmad Ali Fayaz, said, “What may be considered ‘creativity’ at Times Square or a beach in the US might not be appropriate in many Indian places, including Kashmir’s Gulmarg. Events like this require due diligence. Islam or no Islam, Ramzan or no Ramzan, such a show is offensive to the collective consciousness in Kashmir.”

A visibly upset user on X the_forsaken, remarked, “Parading women inappropriately is being called creativity? This is unacceptable, and those responsible must be held accountable.”

The event has drawn widespread criticism, with religious and political leaders demanding answers. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called the event “outrageous”, stating that it went against the region’s cultural and religious values.

The issue was also raised in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, where NC and PDP legislators questioned the government over the event. MLA Kupwara Mir Muhammad Fayaz demanded strict action against the organizers.

Meanwhile, earlier today Chief Minister Omar Abdullah clarified that the government had no involvement in the event. He assured the House that a report has been sought, and appropriate action will be taken based on its findings. (JKNS)
