Anantnag: The 50th International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across Anantnag, with various events organized to honor and recognize the achievements of women in different fields.
The celebrations aimed to highlight the contributions of women in shaping a progressive society and to promote gender equality.
Social Welfare Department hosted a grand function at Town Hall Anantnag, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, SF Hamid, as the chief guest.
In his address, DC praised the remarkable contributions of women across various sectors, acknowledging their dedication and resilience. “Women on Saturday are excelling in every sphere of life, working shoulder to shoulder with men and proving their mettle in diverse fields,” he stated.
On this occasion, distinguished women from different domains were felicitated for their outstanding achievements.
In another significant event, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), in collaboration with the district administration, organized a function at Dak Bunglow Khanabal. The event witnessed the participation of women from the Social Welfare and Education Departments, female members of Pani Samitis, and staff from JJM.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Anantnag, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the crucial role of women in nation-building. He underscored the importance of initiatives like JJM in empowering women by ensuring access to safe drinking water, particularly in remote areas.
He stated, “Empowering women through such initiatives not only improves their quality of life but also strengthens the foundation of a developed society.”
The events also included insightful discussions, cultural performances, and inspiring speeches by women from diverse professional backgrounds. Several women shared their perspectives on the significance of International Women’s Day and the progress women have made in different spheres.
The celebrations were attended by key officials, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag, District Social Welfare Officer Anantnag, District Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) Officer Anantnag, and Executive Engineers from PHE Divisions of Bijbehara and Qazigund, alongside the Project Manager JJM Anantnag.
The day concluded with a strong message of gender equality, empowerment, and the need for continued efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women in every sector.

Int’l Women’s Day celebrated under the theme ‘Accelerate Action’ at B’la
Baramulla: International Women’s Day was celebrated on Saturday at Dak Bungalow Baramulla under the theme ‘Accelerate Action.’
The event was organized by the Department of Social Welfare and witnessed the participation of senior officials and stakeholders committed to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Maqsood ul Zaman; Superintendent of Police Sopore, Divya Dev; Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Zahoor Ahmad Raina; Joint Director Planning Baramulla, Javed Ahmad; President Bar Association Baramulla, Nilofar; District Social Welfare Officer, Sajad Ahmad Bhat and other concerned officers attended the event.
DIG North Kashmir, in his address, highlighted the urgency of advancing gender equality and strengthening women’s empowerment across all sectors. He stressed the need to cultivate an environment where women have equal access to opportunities and resources, enabling them to excel and lead.
Acknowledging the significant contributions of women in various fields, the DIG emphasized the importance of education, capacity building, and leadership roles in driving lasting progress. He called for united efforts from all sectors of society to eliminate obstacles and create a culture of fairness, respect and empowerment for women.
Speakers, including SP Sopore, emphasized the need to accelerate efforts toward gender equality and women’s empowerment. They highlighted the importance of creating equal opportunities for women in education, employment and leadership roles.
The speakers commended the achievements of women in various fields and stressed the need for collective action to remove barriers and ensure that women have access to the resources and support necessary for their growth and success.
On the occasion, several women achievers were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in various fields. As part of the empowerment initiative, tablets were distributed among meritorious students to support their educational journey and encourage academic excellence. Additionally, educational kits were distributed among achievers to support their continuous learning and skill development.
Furthermore, smartphones were distributed among specially-abled students to enhance their access to educational resources and communication tools, empowering them to overcome barriers and achieve greater independence.
The event featured interactive sessions and discussions on key issues affecting women. The speakers called for strengthening policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s participation in decision-making and development processes.

DLSA Srinagar observes ‘Int’l Women’s Day’ at Srinagar Women’s College, Zakura
Srinagar: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with Srinagar Women’s College, Batapora, Zakura, observed International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm.
The observance-cum-awareness program was held under the guidance of Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary J&K Legal Services Authority, and under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arif, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, and Prof. Syed Ifat Ara, Principal of Srinagar Women’s College.
The event aimed to raise awareness about women’s rights and empowerment, emphasizing the importance of gender equality in society.
In her welcome address, Prof. Syed Ifat Ara highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and the need to create a society where women are treated with dignity and respect. She applauded the joint efforts of DLSA Srinagar and the college in organizing the event, stressing the importance of legal awareness in empowering women to assert their rights.
The resource person for the event, Adv. Suhaila Ali, Panel Lawyer of DLSA Srinagar, delivered an insightful talk on the rights of women and the legal mechanisms available for their protection. DIPR Shopian holds Photo Exhibition on ‘Int’l Women’s Day’
Shopian: The Department of Information and Public Relations, Shopian on Saturday conducted a Photo Exhibition at GDC Shopian on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The exhibition showcased women achievers, their contribution and participation in public services, highlighting various facets of women achievements across fields of public service, elections, participation in development, social welfare, entrepreneurship, community engagement, publicity of Women welfare schemes, among others.

SWD Shopian commemorates Int’l Women’s Day with grand celebration
Shopian: Department of Social Welfare’s Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Shopian on Saturday organized a grand event at Government Degree College, Shopian, to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD).
The event served as a powerful platform to celebrate and recognize the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women across various sectors.
The celebration featured impactful speeches by distinguished speakers, including the District Social Welfare Officer, who emphasized the pivotal role of women in societal progress, importance of gender equality, and the collective responsibility of society in empowering women.
Experts from the Department of Health also shared valuable insights on women’s well-being, healthcare rights, and access to essential medical services.
As a mark of appreciation, the organizers felicitated outstanding female achievers including meritorious students, women entrepreneurs, and sportswomen, applauding their dedication and significant contributions in their respective fields.
The event also saw enthusiastic participation of Chief Education Officer, District Panchayat Officer (DPO), District Social Welfare Officer, District Information Officer, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), female educators, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and NRLM Self-Help Group (SHG) members, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to advancing women’s empowerment.
A major highlight of the event was the distribution of 25 sewing machines among destitute girls along with a Signature Campaign.

NABARD celebrates International Women’s Day in Ang
Anantnag: To commemorate the International Women’s Day, NABARD on Saturday organised a programme with Self Help Groups promoted under JK Rural Livelihood Mission in Anantnag.
The programme was attended by a large number of female self help group members involved in various employment generation activities.
On the occasion, various female achievers were felicitated for their exemplary work in their respective fields.
Afshan Batool, Chief Manager SBI was invited as special invitee. The programme was attended by DDM NABARD, Rouf Zargar; LDM Anantnag, Pervez Mir; BPM, Mir Mubarik and other Block and District programme Managers of JK Rural Livelihood Mission.
Speaking during the occasion, DDM NABARD Rouf Zargar highlighted the theme of International Women’s Day as ‘March forward- from Promises to Progress.’ He quoted instances of where various SHGs headed by women have set the example of women empowerment and financial independence.
He also shared the details of various support schemes of NABARD for empowerment of rural women through microenterprise development programmes (MEDPs), livelihood and enterprise development programmes (LEDPs) and forming the women off farm producer companies.
Lead District Manager spoke on the occasion and expressed his views and thoughts about women empowerment. He threw light on the role of banks in supporting female entrepreneurs.
Details about women centric schemes of central and state government were discussed in detail which are aimed to give priority to women by empowering them in various fields.
On the occasion, 06 female achievers were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in livelihood generation and establishment of income generating units. These women shared their journey and success stories with the trainees.

Int’l Women’s Day: DLSA B’gam organizes awareness Prog on rights of Women
Budgam: As per the plan of action and under the aegis of JK Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam on Saturday organized an awareness programme on the rights of women to observe ‘International Women’s Day,’ at District Court Complex Budgam.
The programme was organized under the guidance of O.P Bhagat, Chairman DLSA, and (Pr. District session Judge) Budgam and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam.
On the occasion, a general awareness was imparted to all women litigants and other women at District Court Complex Budgam regarding their rights.
Secretary DLSA Budgam, highlighted the importance of the day and shared her invaluable insights on the topic.
A general guidance was imparted to the participants regarding their legal rights and free Legal Services available to them.
Besides general women participants, women litigants, Officials from DLSA Budgam and Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Budgam also participated in the programme.

GCW Srinagar celebrates Women’s Day
Srinagar: Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar celebrated the International Women’s Day at Lala Arifa auditorium of the campus here on Saturday.
The event was organised by Women’s Study Centre of the college and was attended by students and faculty members.
Sahitya Akademi awardee Kashmiri poet and noted scholar, Prof. Naseem Shafaie was the Chief Guest on the occasion while former Professor University of Kashmir and Ex-Dean Outreach, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Prof. Lily Want was the Guest of Honour.
Other guests who spoke on the occasion included Dr. Fatima Jalid from the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar and Madeeha Majid, a human rights lawyer and motivational speaker.
In her welcome address, Principal of the host college, Prof. Yasmeen Farooq Khan highlighted the relevance of the day and underlined the importance of achieving gender equality in education.
Referring to the pivotal role played by Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road in women emancipation during the last over seven decades, Prof. Yasmeen said, “This institution has been a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. As this college is completing 75 years, we humbly remember the remarkable contribution of women like Mehmooda Ali Shah whose legacy stands as a testament to what women can achieve, even in the face of adversity”.
“She was not only a trailblazer for women’s rights, but a voice for those who were silenced, a champion for education and social justice. Her tireless efforts for promoting equality and justice continue to inspire and ignite action in all of us”, she added.
“We still have a long way to go in ensuring true gender equality, but I believe with the spirit of women like Mehmooda Ali Shah and her ilk along with the collective action of our society, we can be closer to the world where all women, regardless of their background or circumstance, have the opportunity to reach their full potential,” Prof. Yasmeen said.
The Principal also emphasised on the need to recognize the efforts, sacrifices and the potential of women to make gender equality a reality.
In her address, Prof. Naseem Shafaie shared her unique insights on empowering women and fostering inclusivity. She recited her own poems to reflect on the important status accorded to women by Almighty and her contrasting plight in contemporary society.
Prof. Naseem referred to the challenges faced by women in different stages of life, quoting from the works of mystic poet Lala Ded and Habba Khatoun.
She asserted that women are individuals in their own right who cannot be treated as inferior to men. “What makes a woman worthy of being celebrated is that she does not seek revenge and has the strength to walk out of a bad situation to create a more wholesome society where people are more kind and accommodating,” she added.
In her address, Prof. Lily Want referred to the critical role of parents in women emancipation.
“Charity begins at home. Parents have to walk the talk. From breaking down gender stereotypes to sharing the care and work, and educating children about women’s rights and women’s rights and equity, all has to be driven home”, she said. “Parents have to set the example by equally dividing all housework and childcare at home. Boys have to be involved in care work and household chores from an early age along with girls,” she added.
Calling for a desperate need to change the male mindset, Prof. Lily said, “It is an established fact that there is no better role model than that man who appreciates, respects and loves the woman in his life, be it his mother, his wife or his daughter. It is not women alone, but men who need to fight against all sorts of stereotypes.”
Guest speakers, Madeeha Majid shared her professional experiences as a lawyer while as Dr. Fatima Jalid shared her impressive research work besides suggesting tips for young women researchers.
Earlier, while highlighting the important role played by women, Coordinator of Women’s Study Center of the college, Dr. Abina Habib spelt out the work done by the centre of college .
On the occasion, the ‘star students’ of the college were felicitated along with the female local fund employees in recognition of their services as support staff of the institution.
A Young Women’s Conference was also held during the second session of the programme.

H&H Deptt felicitates women trainees on Int’l Women’s Day
Srinagar: Highlighting the role of women in promotion of hand-made crafts, Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, on Saturday organised a function here on Saturday to coincide with the International Women’s Day.
The function was organized by Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Srinagar, Mohsina Irshad and attended by Chief Designer, Amina Asad, and women trainees across various blocks of Srinagar.
During the function, 04 women artisans and entrepreneurs shared their success stories to inspire the trainees.
Later, certificates of appreciation were also distributed amongst the participants in recognition of their contribution in the craft sector.

Distt admin Kulgam celebrates ‘Int’l Women’s Day’ with great enthusiasm
Kulgam: The District Administration Kulgam, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, hosted a vibrant celebration to commemorate ‘International Women’s Day.’
The event featured an impressive lineup of activities highlighting women’s achievements and entrepreneurship in the district.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, who was the chief guest, graced the occasion and led the administration in putting together this meaningful celebration here at the conference hall.

AAAM Degree College Bemina celebrates ‘Int’l Women’s Day’
Srinagar: Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College (AAAMDC), Bemina celebrated International Women’s Day on Saturday in the auditorium of the college.
The event featured two keynote speakers Dr Farzana Gulzar, Professor in the Department of Management Studies, University of Kashmir, Srinagar and Dr Kousar Majid, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, NIT Srinagar. The speakers shared their stories and highlighted the importance of women in the day-to-day courses of life.
A detailed and engaging session on the rights of women, their safety at workplaces followed.
Earlier the principal of the college Prof (Dr) Mudasir Afshan inaugurated the event and as a mark of respect presented saplings to the invited speakers.
While delivering the presidential address, she underscored the need to educate women to see their seamless transition into empowered beings.
In her welcome address, Prof Fauzia Durrani, Head Department of English, spoke passionately about the gender disparity that still plagues our society.
Meanwhile, Alumni Meet 2025 was held on the sidelines of the event. Prominent alumni attended the meet and gave suggestions on how to augment the existing academic and infrastructural base for a speedy and healthier accreditation by the UGC accreditation agency NAAC.

She eloquently traced the history of International Women’s Day and its relevance in today’s world, where women continue to fight for equal rights and opportunities.
Highlighting the need to challenge gender biases, she called for collective efforts to elevate the dignity of women and ensure their active participation in shaping the future of society.
Addressing the participants, Nighat Aman, SSP, JK Police, spoke about the importance of self-realization among women, pointing out that gender inequality is deeply rooted within family structures and must be addressed from the grassroots level.
Entrepreneur Najamul Sehar Mufti underscored the vital contributions of women, from homemakers to professionals, across different walks of life
The programme featured insightful discussions from various speakers who shed light on the challenges women face daily, including the dowry system, gender-based violence, and cyber exploitation.
They also elaborated on strategies, legislative measures, and policies aimed at amplifying women’s voices and overcoming these challenges.
On the occasion a felicitation ceremony was held to honour guests, dignitaries, and outstanding female students excelling in sports, cultural activities, and academics.
Among others the programme was attended by SDM Sumbal, Prosecuting Officer Ganderbal, Women entrepreneurs, Women Social Workers and a large gathering of female students.

Bandipora: SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration, ICDS, NRLM and Youth Services and Sports Department on Saturday organised a mega awareness and felicitation programme to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The programme held in Auditorium Hall N.M Higher Secondary School Bandipora brought together key stakeholders to honour women achievers and promote awareness of various women-centric initiatives.
The programme presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl along with District Programme Officer ICDS, Yaar Ali Khan commenced with an empowerment pledge, reaffirming collective commitment to women’s rights and gender equality.

The programme featured speeches by officials from HUB, ICDS, ARSH (Health Department), RSETI, and NRLM, highlighting government schemes, skill development programmes, and women’s safety measures.
Adding to the vibrance of the event, a Nukkad Natak (street play) was performed by students of Army Goodwill School, spreading awareness on gender equality, while cultural performances by ICDS and Education Department teams highlighted the spirit of women empowerment.
On the occasion, women entrepreneurs from NRLM shared their inspiring success stories, motivating others to pursue self-reliance.
Further to honour excellence and inspire others, a felicitation ceremony was also held to felicitate Winners of the Kickboxing & Poster Making competitions, Tribal NEET qualifiers and toppers of 10th, 11th, 12th, and NEET qualifiers, Skilled trainees from RSETI & ITI, and women achievers.
A medical health camp offering health check-ups was also organized outside the venue, providing free medical consultations and screenings to women.
Among others the programme was attended by DIO Aadil Manzoor, ICDS Workers, and a large gathering of female students.

Int’l Women’s Day celebrated at Kupwara
Kupwara: International Women’s Day was on Saturday celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour across the Kupwara district, highlighting the invaluable contributions of women in society and promoting gender equality.
The main function held at Town Hall Kupwara, witnessed participation from a huge number of women from different walks of life and shared their valuable thoughts.
ADC Kupwara, M Rouf Rehman presided over the function. DDC Member Drugmulla, Amina Majeed; CEO Kupwara, Mehraj-u-din Shah and other officers from administration and women from different departments including ICDS, Education, Social Welfare, One Stop Centre and others were present in the function.
Speaking at the occasion, the ADC said that the aim of celebrating the International Women’s Day is to empower the women and give them due respect so that they can develop in the society like their counterparts that are men.
He highlighted the importance of women folk in efficiently handling the majority of affairs of life from household chores to civil administration and other big jobs. He emphasized that the women should get familiar with their rights and duties so that they can live a dignified life in society.
The ADC also assured all possible support from the District Administration to the women in resolving their grievances.
DDC Member, Amina also spoke and expressed delight over the presence of the big gathering of the women and said that the gathering itself signifies women empowerment. She glorified the role of women in different jobs and spheres of life.
During the function various women speakers shared their thoughts to honor the achievements of women from different walks of life. They emphasized the need for grassroots awareness about the rights of women which shall empower them in fighting for their rights and live a dignified life.
Meanwhile, Awards and Certificates of appreciation were also presented among women achievers who have shown their best performance in administration and other services.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated in Blocks, Tehsils, Panchayats and sub divisions where officers and various influential speakers commemorated the role and contribution of women folk in different fields of life across the globe.
On the occasion, various awareness programmes were held and the women participants were sensitized about their rights and duties. Awareness about grievance redressal mechanisms were also discussed to protect the women folk from crimes and violence against them.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated in all schools and colleges of district Kupwara during which seminars and debates were held to raise the awareness about gender equity and respect towards women folk.

Int’l Women’s Day celebrated at B’gam
Budgam: District Administration Budgam in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office, Budgam, organized a grand event at Community Hall, Budgam, to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event saw the presence of District officers including District Programme Officer Budgam, ACR Budgam, Judicial Magistrate JJB, DPO RDD Budgam, DSWO Budgam, SI Women Police Station Budgam and other District Officers.
The program commenced with a warm welcome to the guests, followed by speeches addressing the significance of International Women’s Day and the pivotal role of women in society.
Each dignitary highlighted the importance of empowering women, promoting gender equality, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment for women in all walks of life.
Chief Medical Officer, M Ayoub Fateh Khan, emphasized the importance of women’s health and well-being, advocating for better healthcare facilities and support services for women.
District Panchayat Officer, Sanya Haq Khan, encouraged women to actively participate in local governance and decision-making processes to strengthen their representation at the grassroots level.
District Programme Officer, Sammer Naik, discussed the importance of implementing welfare schemes to benefit women and children, ensuring they receive maximum support from the government.
ACR Afroza Bano, inspired women to strive for financial independence and awareness of their legal rights.
Judicial Magistrate JJB, Shabber Ayaz, stressed the need for stronger legal frameworks to protect women from domestic violence, harassment, and discrimination.
District Social Welfare Officer, Ubaid ul Khazir, reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting women through various social welfare schemes and initiatives.
Sub-Inspector Women Police Station, Dali Kour, reassured the audience of the police’s continued efforts in ensuring the safety and security of women in the district.
District Mission Coordinator, Afroza Ahad, emphasized the importance of education and skill development for women to enhance their socio-economic status.
The event also featured cultural performances, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that provided a platform for women to voice their experiences and concerns. Several women achievers from the district were honored for their exceptional contributions in various fields.

Int’l Women’s Day celebrated with enthusiasm, gaiety across Jammu
Jammu: Variety cultural shows and felicitation events marked the celebration of the International Women’s Day across Jammu Division.
At Poonch: The Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District Administration, celebrated International Women’s Day at the Auditorium Hall of SKC Government Degree College. The event was marked by great enthusiasm and passion among attendees. Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal was the Chief Guest. Other attendees included the PO ICDS, CEO, CMO, CDPO Haveli, Women Army Officers, ASP and female achievers from different fields. The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sakhi One Stop Centre, and Superintendent Parisha/Palaash were also present. The celebration featured the recitation of the National Anthem, along with a vibrant cultural program that included dance performances, skits, and other activities by local artists and students. Additionally, thought-provoking speeches were delivered by students from different educational institutions. Deputy Commissioner Kundal inspected the stalls set up by different departments, including a Free Medical Camp, social welfare schemes, handicrafts, handlooms, and the Forest Department. In his address, the DC emphasized the crucial role of women in nation-building and discussed their rights. Later, he honored women achievers in various fields, distributed kits among women, and awarded prizes to students and artists who participated in the celebrations.
At Kishtwar: The District Administration, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Municipal Council and the Cooperative Department celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm and fervor here on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan was the Chief Guest and the celebration featured a series of activities that highlighted the achievements, contributions, and entrepreneurship of women in the region. Stalls were set up by different departments, including DHEW Mission Shakti Kishtwar and other private women entrepreneurs, showcasing Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), women entrepreneurs, and their innovative ventures. The event marked a milestone as it was the first of its kind where the grievances of women were listened to, with on-the-spot redressal by the Deputy Commissioner. Women Entrepreneurs and SHGs shared their success stories, providing inspiration for others to follow suit. Notably, private SHGs also participated, showcasing their entrepreneurial journey. The event also recognized the efforts of women officers, entrepreneurs, and three women-led cooperatives registered under the Self-Reliant Act of 1999 by the Cooperative Department, who were felicitated on the occasion, among others.
At Rajouri: The District Administration Rajouri, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, celebrated International Women’s Day with a series of events. The main event was held at Dak Bungalow where Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma was the chief guest. As part of the celebrations, women achievers were felicitated for their remarkable contribution to society. A special legal awareness session was conducted by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to educate women about their rights and entitlements. Key speakers deliberated on various aspects of women’s empowerment, while the Cultural Department Rajouri presented a thought-provoking play on the theme of gender equality. In a significant step toward women’s skill development, around 120 female students trained in computer courses under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative at ITI Rajouri were awarded certificates, recognizing successful completion of their training.
At Udhampur: International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervor in Udhampur. An impressive function was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the District Police and Social Welfare Department here at DPL. Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai was the chief guest, while Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure was the guest of honor and District Social Welfare Officer Kanika Gupta presided over the event. The DC congratulated the participants and underscored the importance of spreading awareness about women’s empowerment. She stressed that such programs play a crucial role in fostering education and ensuring equal participation of women in all sectors. A theme-based cultural program, aimed at sensitizing the audience on gender equality and women’s rights, was presented by artists and students.
At Reasi: The District Administration Reasi celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and purpose, under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Equality, Rights, Empowerment”. Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik was the chief guest. The DC along with other dignitaries felicitated the women achievers in various categories. The distribution of laptops to top-performing girls from schools and colleges stood as a testament to the district’s commitment to supporting women’s education. Additionally, sports kits were provided to girls excelling in sports, while menstrual hygiene kits were distributed among school girls, emphasizing the importance of health and wellness. Women from various backgrounds, students, officers, and members of self-help groups, shared their inspiring journeys, shedding light on the challenges they have overcome and their relentless pursuit of excellence. A cultural performance by the girls from GDC Reasi added a vibrant touch to the event. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the significance of International Women’s Day. SSP Anita Sharma also highlighted the importance of women in society.
At Samba: The District Administration Samba, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services & Sports and Social Welfare Department, hosted a vibrant celebration of International Women’s Day featuring an inspiring volleyball tournament at the prestigious Rani Suchet Singh Sports Stadium. District Development Commissioner Rajesh Sharma was the Chief Guest while SDM Ghagwal, Sunaina was the Guest of Honour. The event showcased the athletic prowess of women from the Youth Services & Sports Department field staff, highlighting the district’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through sports. Meanwhile, International Women’s Day was celebrated at Supwal Panchayat in Samba district, highlighting the achievements and contributions of women in the Block. District Magistrate Rajesh Sharma- the Chief Guest said “Empowering women is key to building a stronger and more progressive society. Their contributions at all levels are invaluable and must be recognized and supported.” Additional Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Kusum Chib, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment and their vital role in society.
At Doda: District Doda celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, celebrating the significance of women’s empowerment, education, and gender equality. The event, held here in the Community Hall, witnessed the presence of DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal, DDC Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Rani, Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and Director Social Welfare Department Jammu Rupesh Kumar along with other senior officials. The program focused on promoting the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) campaign and encouraging equal opportunities for girls. A specially designed photo frame with the theme #EmpowerWomen and #AccelerateAction was displayed, symbolizing the district’s commitment to gender equality. The event featured cultural performances, including a Nukkad Natak and skit highlighting various social issues faced by women. These performances were presented by the girls of Parisha and AIER Public School under the supervision of Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, District Social Welfare Office Doda. A key highlight of the celebration was the distribution of benefits to women and young girls. Laptops and bicycles were provided under the BBBP initiative, while motorized tricycles were provided under the Rehabilitation Scheme. Certificates of excellence were awarded to Self-Help Group (SHG) women in recognition of their outstanding contributions.

GDC Sunderbani: Government Degree College Sunderbani marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant celebration, highlighting the achievements and contributions of women in various fields. The event featured a series of inspiring activities aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women. The program commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Akhil Khajuria. To add a creative touch, students presented cultural performances, including poetry recitations, skits and musical performances, all dedicated to celebrating the strength and resilience of women. Awards and certificates were presented to students and faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment and social causes.
GDC Ramban: The Department of Political Science at Government Degree College (GDC) Ramban observed International Women’s Day with the theme, “Celebrating the Role of Women in Constitution Making.” The event began with an inaugural speech by Head of the Department of Chemistry Prof. Raj Kumar Gupta. He encouraged female students to draw inspiration from the historical figures and strive to realize their drea Head of the Department of Political Science Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Mir elaborated on the invaluable contributions of women in constitution making. A key highlight of the event was a debate competition where students from various semesters participated, engaging with the theme of women’s role in shaping the nation.
GDC Vijaypur: In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Department of History at Government Degree College Vijaypur organized a thought-provoking lecture on the theme “Role of women in the Constituent Assembly” in the conference hall. The event was held under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma, aimed to honor women’s achievements, recognize their contributions to society, and advocate for gender equality. Dr. Radhika Rasyal (Lecturer History) underscored the historical significance of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the role of women in making the Constitution of India. The event was attended by the students and the faculty members. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma expressed appreciation for the courage, potential, and strength of Nari Shakti (women power).
GDC Ramgarh: Government Degree College Ramgarh marked International Women’s Day with a heartfelt and inspiring celebration, bringing together women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM): Umeed Mission Cluster-e of Vijaypur Block. The event emphasized the importance of empowering women and girls, aligning with the global theme for 2025.
KVK Samba: KVK Samba celebrated “International Women Day” at its headquarters. The programme was attended by Noora Bibi, a renowned progressive farm woman of District Samba and about 70 women farmers of the different villages of district Samba. The programme was initiated by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Samba with warm welcome of the participants. Dr Saurav Gupta, highlighted the theme of the International Women’s Day is “For All Women & Girls: Rights. Equality, Empowerment.” He also explained the basic objective of this annual event is to intensify awareness about Nutri Garden and Importance of pulses and green leafy vegetables in daily diet under nutrition. He encouraged rural women to actively participate in Women Self-Help Group activities, broaden their horizons, and enhance their self-confidence.
Sainik Welfare Deptt: The Sainik Welfare department celebrated the International Women Day. On the occasion women and daughters of ex-servicemen who have excelled in different fields like defence services, administrative services, medicines etc were honored. The ex-servicemen were exhorted to educate and encourage their women family members to become financially independent so that they can stand tall in the society and make a mark for themselves.

J&K Resident Commission celebrates Int’l Women’s Day
New Delhi: J&K Resident Commission celebrated International Women’s Day with great fervor under the aegis of ‘Hello J&K initiative’.
The event, themed ‘Accelerate Action’, highlighted the urgency of advancing gender parity and reinforcing the commitment towards women empowerment.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Resident Commissioner, Dr. Rashmi Singh, applauded the contributions and resilience of female employees in the Resident Commission office as well as the Directorate, many of whom joined the event virtually. She reiterated the government’s dedication towards supporting the womenfolk in all spheres of life.
The event featured distinguished guest speakers including Dr. Manisha Priyam, Professor Education Policy at NEPA and Dr. Aditi Paswan, Assistant Professor at Delhi University.
They honored the contributions and achievements of women across national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural and economic boundaries, emphasizing the importance of collective commitment towards gender equality across social, economic and professional domains.
Also in attendance was Dr. Vartika Nanda, a prison reformer and faculty member at LSR, New Delhi. She shared the poignant anecdotes from her interactions with female inmates, shedding light on their struggles and resilience.
The event was made successful with the dedicated efforts of Anil Sharma ARC, Sachin Manager, 5 PR and Shruti Bhardwaj, Nodal Officer Hello J&K.
Dr. Rekha Jad, Consultant, concluded the session with a heartfelt tribute to the women who have broken barriers and shattered glass ceilings on their path to success.
The event culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Veena Sharma, Lecturer.

Int’l Women’s Day: Seminar on Women Empowerment organised at GDC Frisal
Kulgam: A seminar on Women Empowerment on Saturday organised by the Government Degree College (GDC) Frisal to celebrate International women’s day.
Chanchal Singh, Dy.SP operation police Component Hatipora was the chief guest in the seminar.
The seminar began with a welcome/Introductory address by the Principal of the College Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Shah. He emphasised the role of women in the development of society from ancient times to modern era.
The chief guest spoke at length on gender equality and eradication of gender bias.
Prof. Sana of Deptt. of BBA GDC Kulgam put on the table the contribution of women for the Society. Associate prof. Zoology GDC Kulgam, Dr. Shaista Masrat deliberated on the theme and emphasised the audience about the importance of the day.
Dr. Muzifar Yousuf (H.O.D English), Prof Mehnaza Jan (H.O.D.Economics) also deliberated on the theme.
Students of the college actively participated in the seminar and spoke on the given theme. A jury team evaluated their speeches and finally judged the first three positions.
Among the students, Insha Gulzar (Ist Sem) secured the Ist position, Mohsina Manzoor (6th Sem) bagged 2nd position and Misbah Ashraf (Ist Sem) secured the 3rd Position.

Grand event held to commemorate ‘Int’l Women’s Day-2025’ at G’bal
Ganderbal: The Department of Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Ganderbal, celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with a grand event held at the auditorium of Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Duderhama, Ganderbal.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, presided over the event and emphasized the need to achieve gender equality and raise awareness about women’s rights. He highlighted the government’s commitment to women empowerment, ensuring equal opportunities for women through various women-centric initiatives.
The DC stressed that real empowerment comes with a change in societal attitudes towards women. He urged collective efforts from all sections of society to create an environment where women can thrive in all aspects of life.
District Mission Coordinator of Sankalp Hub also spoke on the occasion emphasizing the pivotal role of women in societal development.
As a mark of recognition and encouragement, the DC felicitated outstanding female achievers, including NEET qualifiers and meritorious students from the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, applauding their academic excellence. Women entrepreneurs who have made significant strides in their respective fields were also honored.
The event served as a platform to acknowledge the contributions of women across diverse sectors, reinforcing the district’s dedication to fostering gender equality and celebrating women’s achievements.
The program witnessed the participation of key officials, including the District Programme Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, ICDS workers, ASHAs, and other stakeholders committed to women’s empowerment.

Int’l Women’s Day: Distt admin Srinagar organizes Prog at SP College
Srinagar: To commemorate the International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8th of March every year, an impressive function was on Saturday organized by District Administration Srinagar here in the Auditorium of SP College under the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment”.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat was the chief guest at the event organized jointly by the District Administration Srinagar and District Social Welfare Office.
During the function, various programmes related to women empowerment were presented, besides women achievers of Srinagar were also felicitated by the District Administration.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and role of Administration and society to raise awareness about women empowerment and to promote gender equality,
He underscored the importance of birth of Girl Child and emphasized end to gender stereotypes to empower Girls and protecting their rights at society and domestic level as well. He said the day is also observed to address concerns of gender discrimination and women empowerment.
The DC stressed on building a constructive environment that values the girl child and stop gender-bias, ensuring survival and protection of the Girl child.
Dr Bilal urged all participants to support the movement for gender equality and women’s empowerment by advocating for policies, supporting women’s businesses and mentoring and educating, challenging gender norms, and speaking out against violence to help the women in distress.
The DC also made a mention of various initiatives towards women emancipation ensuring their empowerment and safe public space all around. He also referred to various schemes of the Government launched for the welfare of women, especially those from underprivileged sections of the society. He called for one and all to contribute in women empowerment for overall prosperity of the society.
Earlier, District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad delivered the welcome address wherein he highlighted the importance of the International Women’s Day and deliberated upon the theme ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality & Empowerment.’
Later, in a felicitation ceremony, women achievers of the district were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in different walks of life viz. Sports, Academics, Entrepreneurs, Art & Culture and winner of Essay Competition.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Ahmad Kataria; Principal S.P College, Prof Bashir Ahmad Sheikh; Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, faculty members, students of the College and a large number of participants attended the event.
