Save Sharda Committee Reiterates Demand for Reopening of Sharda Peeth in PoK

Prayagraj: The Save Sharda Committee Kashmir (Regd.) has once again urged the government to open the Sharda Corridor, similar to the Kartarpur Corridor, allowing devotees access to the ancient Sharda Peeth in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

In a press conference held in Prayagraj, the committee’s leadership reaffirmed their demand, citing a recent statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his meeting with Sringeri Shankaracharya Vidushekhara Bharati Ji at the Prayagraj Kumbh. The Home Minister had reportedly assured that the government is working towards this goal.

The Save Sharda Committee also called upon all followers of Shankaracharya traditions to advocate for the reopening of Sharda Peeth, one of the most revered shrines in the Sanatan Dharma tradition.

Additionally, Ravinder Pandita, President of the All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), demanded that the government take concrete steps towards the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits. He emphasized the need for an immediate constitution of a Temple & Shrine Board until a Temples Bill is tabled and passed in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly.

During the press briefing, Pandita also invited Sanatanis and Sharda devotees to visit the newly built Sharda Temple at Teetwal in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir. The temple, constructed as part of a broader initiative to revive the region’s ancient spiritual heritage, has become a symbol of the ongoing efforts to reconnect devotees with their sacred sites.

The demand for the Sharda Corridor has been a long-standing issue among Hindu devotees, especially Kashmiri Pandits, who seek access to the 8th-century Sharda Peeth, once a major center of learning and pilgrimage.
