Srinagar Police in Kulgam on Saturday inaugurated a cricket tournament under the banner “Shaheed DySP Aman Kumar Thakur Memorial Cricket Tournament”.
The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal under Civic Action Programme-2025 (CAP) to inculcate the sense of sportsmanship and Amity among the participants. The main objective of the tournament is to provide them a platform so that they can exhibit their talent and hone their skills, as this gesture will go a long way in nurturing the sports activities in the district. On the occasion Addl. SP Kulgam, Addl. SP NHW Qazigund Kulgam, DySP Kulgam, DySP DAR Kulgam and other officers were present.
The tournament in which a total number of 24 teams of the district are participating will be played on knockout basis. The inaugural match was played between Akhal CC and LCC Kulgam.
While speaking on the occasion, SSP Kulgam expressed his unwavering support for the promotion of sports activities in the region. He assured the participants that the police department would continue to provide all necessary assistance to nurture and encourage young talent. The SSP emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and overall well-being, and pledged to create more opportunities for local athletes to shine.
