Kulgam : District Development Commissioner Kulgam (DDC) Athar Aamir Khan on Monday reviewed the implementation of Bio-Medical Waste Management (BMWM) here.
ADDC Kulgam, CMO, Medical Superintendent District Hospital, District Officer State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), EO MC Kulgam, District Veterinary Officer Sheep /Animal, DHO, Nodal Officer BMW Committee, representative from Lassipora private firm (CBMWTF) all BMO’s and various concerned officers attended the meeting. DDC highlighted the importance of Bio-Medical Waste Management for reducing the serious health implications. He directed the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kulgam and all BMOs for ensuring proper implementation of the guidelines besides segregation of Bio-medical waste collected in the hospital. He further directed the hospital authorities to maintain a proper daily record of the log book of Bio-Medical waste collected by the agency which has been engaged for the said purpose.
The members of the Committee were further directed to conduct awareness programs for the health staff to ensure the proper implementation of the Act. The MS and DO (SPCB) was also directed to speed up monitoring cum inspections of the registered private clinics, pharmaceutical shops, pharmacies.
CMO informed the meeting that around 200 kgs of Bio-Medical waste is being collected on a daily basis from the entire district including DH Hospital, Sub District Hospital & NTPHCs.
DC stressed on the strict implementation of the guidelines regarding phasing out of mercury based equipments.
