Srinagar: Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir (KU), Prof. Nilofer Khan, today flagged -off a contingent of 46 students from the University of Kashmir, including participants from its satellite campuses, affiliated colleges and constituent colleges for the Inter-University North-Zone Youth Festival to be held at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
According to a statement issued from Centre for Public Relations University of Kashmir, Srinagar the festival is being organized under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The flag-off ceremony, held at the varsity`s main campus, was also attended by Dean Research KU Prof. Mohammad Sultan Bhat and Dr. Ashfaq Zarri, Special Secretary to the Vice Chancellor.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nilofer Khan expressed her pride in the students representing the KU at such a prestigious event. She encouraged the participants to put forth their best efforts in showcasing their talents and creativity on a larger platform. “This is a significant opportunity for our students to interact with peers from across the North Zone, exchange ideas, and display their cultural and literary excellence,” she said.
Dean Research KU Prof. Mohammad Sultan Bhat commended the students for their dedication and preparation, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in fostering teamwork, leadership skills, and personal growth
The contingent is being led by Cultural Officer KU Dr. Shahid Ali Khan whileas Assistant Sports Officer Ms Surjit Kaur from DPE&S KU is also accompanying the contingent.
The contingent from KU will participate in a variety of cultural and literary programs during the North Zone Youth Festival. Students excelling at this event will qualify for the All-India Youth Festival, offering them a chance to compete at the national level.
Previously, these students have been the winners of various competitions organised during the University’s annual Youth festival ‘Sonzal-2024’
Meanwhile a week-long residential Orientation cum training programme, organized by the Division of Youth Affairs, DSW KU concluded here on Tuesday.
The programme, held from January 23 to 28, aimed to prepare these 46 students for the North Zone Level Inter-University Youth Festival.
The participants were trained in art, culture, literature, dance, theatre, and music by expert resource persons.
Cultural Officer DSW KU and Programme Coordinator, Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, highlighted the significance of such training programs.
“With proper mentoring, our students can achieve excellence and make a mark in cultural and artistic fields,” he said.
The programme successfully equipped participants with the skills and confidence to represent the University at the inter-university level, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to holistic student development.
