Srinagar Police Bust Drug Racket, Seize 290 Bottles of Codeine in Panthachowk

Srinagar: Acting on credible information, Srinagar Police recovered 290 bottles of Codeine Phosphate during a search operation in Panthachowk, officials said on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson, in a statement issued to news agency JKNS, said the search was conducted at the residence of Irfan Ahmad Ganie, son of Manzoor Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Athawajan. The operation, carried out in the presence of Tehsildar Panthachowk (a Gazetted Officer), led to the seizure of the contraband.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 05/2025 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the trafficking network.

Meanwhile, J&K Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. “No one will be spared, and the law will catch up with every offender,” the spokesperson added. (JKNS)
