Poonch: Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Level Road Safety Committee (DLRSC), Vikas Kundal, convened a meeting here Wednesday in the conference hall of the DC Office .
The meeting discussed in detail the comprehensive road safety measures aimed at reducing traffic accidents and enhancing public safety on the roads.
An array of decisions were taken including the construction of 19 bus stops and 10 toilets along the route from BG to Poonch.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to oversee this project and emphasized the importance of maintenance by the concerned Block Development Officers.
The Deputy Commissioner announced that five locations for toilets would be provided by the Rural Development Department while the BRO would identify the remaining five sites.
Highlighting the need for improved services on National Highway 144, the Deputy Commissioner urged the BRO to ensure that facilities available on this highway match those of other national highways.
The Committee sought strict action against negligent drivers. The Deputy Commissioner mandated the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Poonch to revoke driving licenses of individuals involved in accidents due to negligence.
To counter instances of speeding, the traffic department was directed to deploy personnel along key routes, specifically from Nakhan Wali Road to Christ School and Nakhan Wali Road to S.K. Bridge, while also installing CCTV cameras.
Furthermore, the Chief Medical Officer was tasked with organizing awareness camps to educate drivers on safety measures and conduct health tests for conditions such as diabetes, eyesight etc.
In an effort to enhance student safety, the education department was mandated to enforce a policy prohibiting students from riding motorcycles to school.
Additionally, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate was instructed to confirm the installation of CCTV cameras in school buses.
