Srinagar : In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking in 2024, Budgam Police has registered 56 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 134 drug peddlers, including 14 hard-core offenders booked under the PIT NDPS Act.
The data shared available with district Police Budgam reveals that the police also attached three residential houses and illegally gained properties worth Rs 1.28 crore linked to narco-smuggling.
Contraband and psychotropic substances valued at Rs 70.53 lakh in the black market were recovered in the last year, which include 11 grams of heroin, 9.48 kilograms of charas, 35.205 kilograms of charas powder, 10.334 kilograms of cannabis powder, 96.101 kilograms of poppy straw, 650 grams of fuki, 124 bottles of codeine phosphate, and 1,249 Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets.
The police also intensified action against illegal poppy and bhang cultivation, registering six cases and destroying crops spread across 7 kanals and 17 marlas of private agricultural land and 20 kanals of state land.
In addition to enforcement, the district police have organized 32 awareness campaigns throughout the district, educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society
