ACB Tightens Grip on Corruption in J&K: 87 FIRs Registered in 2024

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its efforts to combat corruption, demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach throughout 2024.

With the registration of 87 First Information Reports (FIRs) this year—42 in the Jammu division and 45 in the Kashmir division—the bureau has shown its commitment to ensuring good governance and curbing dishonest practices.

As per a statement issued to the news agency JKNS, among these cases, 23 were trap cases, and 13 involved disproportionate assets. Additionally, 32 cases were charge-sheeted in courts, highlighting the bureau’s thorough investigations and evidence collection efforts.

It also reads as, key achievements in 2024, areas the bureau issued 42,521 vigilance clearances through its online portal, facilitating processes like promotions, retirements, regularizations, and NOCs for travel abroad. In 16 cases, FIRs were registered against revenue officials and land mafias involved in the illegal usurpation of custodian land in areas like Asarwan, Mishriwala, and Bhalwal in Jammu district.

The statement also reads as, officers underwent specialized training at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad, enhancing their skills in handling cases involving traps, disproportionate assets, and abuse of official positions. Internal workshops were also organized for better appreciation of evidence. ACB examined numerous complaints received via its Satrak Nagrik Mobile App, WhatsApp helpline, email, and other channels. Of 2,772 cases forwarded to District Vigilance Officers (DVOs), 2,434 were resolved.

“The bureau celebrated UT Vigilance Awareness Week, National Vigilance Awareness Week, and International Anti-Corruption Day to educate stakeholders about anti-corruption laws and the importance of transparency in governance,” it reads.

“The ACB emphasized that tackling corruption requires collective efforts from both the government and the public. Citizens are urged to report instances of corruption through legal channels, with the assurance of immediate action, including raids, arrests, and trials,” reads the statement.—(JKNS)
