Jammu: Intensifying its drive against traffic violations, the Regional Transport Office Jammu on Friday conducted an enforcement drive across the District.
The Officials conducted comprehensive inspection of vehicles as per the standing instructions of Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan, focusing on adherence to traffic rules, verification of documents, and promoting responsible vehicle usage.
The team checked as many as 125 vehicles of which 49 were challaned and 05 others were seized for serious violations. The main focus of the drive was on vehicles plying with expired fitness (Unfit vehicles), R/Permit violations, Plying 2-wheelers without wearing Helmet, overloading (P&G) etc. A fine of Rs.133500 is expected from the drive.
Speaking on the importance of responsible driving, the RTO Jammu emphasized that parents can play a critical role in curbing underage driving. “We urge people to take responsibility in preventing and playing their part in curbing underage driving, and over speeding driving habits. Civic sense and responsible driving habits should start at home. Sensible and responsible driving must stem from a collective civic responsibility, not solely from enforcement,” the RTO stated.
Highlighting the dangers of negligent and illegal driving, he added, “We have several instances to quote wherein negligence of a fraction of seconds has claimed several precious lives.” He said the aim of such drives is to minimize road accidents and instill a culture of civic responsibility among road users.
The officials appealed to the public to cooperate and contribute towards safer roads in Jammu district by adhering to traffic norms, keeping vehicle documents updated, and driving responsibly. These measures are intended to ensure the safety of all road users.
The team consisted of ARTO (Hqr.) Rehana Tabassam, ARTO Flying Squad, Bipin Singh Charak, MVIs Vikas Sritas & Jagndeep Singh and MVTA Tarunjot Singh.
