Flood Relief Operations: Indian Army Assists in Puducherry Amid Cyclone Fengal

Puducherry: The Indian Army has launched flood relief operations in Puducherry following heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Fengal, which has resulted in widespread waterlogging. The operations were initiated in response to a formal requisition from the District Collector of Puducherry, requesting immediate assistance.

An Army rescue team was mobilised early this morning from Chennai and reached Krishnanagar, Puducherry by 0700 hrs. The team promptly commenced rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.

Key Highlights:
– The Army column is working to rescue civilians from approximately 500 houses in the Krishnanagar area, where water levels have reached up to 5 feet in some localities.
• Rescue operations commenced at 0615 hrs, with 100 people safely relocated to secure locations within the first two hours.
• 100 individuals have been safely relocated to secure locations so far.
• The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is already deployed, with the Army supplementing their efforts for enhanced relief operations.

The Indian Army continues to work in close coordination with the civil administration to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens. Further updates will be shared as the operations progress.
