Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V.K. Bidhuri, has assured the public that the administration has made significant improvements in the power supply for this winter season, taking into account the expected La Niña conditions.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Bidhuri highlighted that the administration was well aware of the La Niña phenomenon and had been preparing for it since last year. “We were already anticipating La Niña’s arrival, and this year, our preparations have been much better,” he said.

Bidhuri also informed that the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) is actively working on a curtailment schedule to ensure minimal disruptions in the power supply. “We are hopeful that power cuts will be fewer compared to last year,” he added.

In light of the harsh winter expected this year, Bidhuri urged consumers to cooperate, particularly during transformer breakdowns. He also advised against using makeshift or crude instruments to manage power issues, as these could worsen the situation.

The Divisional Commissioner also addressed concerns regarding the Machil incident, assuring that an investigation is ongoing and that the authorities are making every effort to prevent such incidents from happening again. (KNS)
