Night cold intensifies in Kashmir with Pahalgam coldest at -3.6°C

Srinagar: The night cold intensifies as mercury dropped in Kashmir valley with Pahalgam remaining the coldest place with minus 3.6°C on Tuesday, officials said.

The night temperature dipped in Srinagar, recorded at 0.4°C during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. It was 0.3°C below normal, the first time for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

Pahalgam remained the coldest place with the night temperature dipped to -3.6°C on Tuesday against the -2.6°C recorded a day ago and it was 1.5°C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The night temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg improved slightly but still recorded 0.7°C below normal of minus 1.5°C Celsius on Tuesday. The tourist resort witnessed the coldest night of the seasons a day ago with temperature plunged to minus 3.0°C.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 1.4°C against the 2.6°C recorded the previous night and it was 1.9°C below normal for the gateway of Kashmir on Tuesday.

The picnic spot of Kokernag also in south Kashmir recorded a low of 1.4°C against the 4.2°C and it was normal for the place during this period of the season, the MeT office said.

Kupwara witnessed a drop and recorded at minus 0.5°C against 0.2°C the previous night. It was 0.2C below normal for the border district in north Kashmir on Tuesday.

Barring Gulmarg, the day temperature of all the weather stations of Kashmir valley was recorded at 0 to 1°C above normal on Monday amid the appearance of bright sunshine.

The MeT office said the weather in Kashmir valley is likely to remain dry till November 23.

It said another wet spell is likely to commence on November 24 with the possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches and at scattered places of Kashmir and isolated places of Jammu division.

Thereafter the weather is very likely to remain generally dry till November 30, it said.
