Srinagar: Atleast five children were rescued by District Child Protection Unit on Saturday as part of a special drive to prevent child labour and beggary in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The district administration in Baramulla, in collaboration with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Unit, Labour Department, Child Helpline, and Juvenile Police Unit, launched a focused campaign in the district to address child labour, begging, and the plight of children in street situations.

The initiative follows the directives of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), prioritizing the rescue and rehabilitation of vulnerable children.

A special drive was conducted in Baramulla, Pattan, and Palhalan, leading to the rescue of at least five children.
Authorities reiterated that employing children below 18 years of age in any form of labour, including domestic work, is a punishable offense under child protection laws and violators face stringent legal action.

CWC member Nazia Nabi highlighted the adverse impact of child labour on education and development.
“Engaging children in labour not only violates the law but also deprives them of their fundamental right to education and a better future,” she said .

The authorities have called upon all citizens to remain vigilant and actively report any violations.
