Srinagar, 22 Oct 2024: The Women’s Premier League Baramulla organised by Baramulla Cricket Forum in collaboration with Dagger Division, concluded in grand style, showcasing exceptional talent, fierce competition, and inspiring sportsmanship. This groundbreaking event, which brought together some of the finest female players from the region, has firmly established itself as a significant platform for the promotion of women’s sports in Jammu & Kashmir.

Held at St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, the finale witnesses an exhilarating match between the two top teams, Anantnag and Baramulla, with Anantnag emerging as champions after a hard-fought contest in the Category of professional teams and in amateur category the finals was played between DPS and Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, with Government Girls Higher Secondary School team crossing the winning line in a close contest. The crowd was treated to high-quality cricket that highlighted the depth of talent within the women’s sporting community. Talat Raina, player of Anantnag, played a stellar role, securing the Player of the Match award for her outstanding performance.

 

In the closing ceremony, the winning team was awarded the prestigious Women’s Premier League Trophy, along with cash prizes and accolades for outstanding individual performances. Maj Gen PS Punia, SM, VSM, GOC Dagger Division, the Chief Guest of the event, commended the participants for their dedication, skill, and sportsmanship. Special awards were also given for categories such as Best Player of the Tournament and Emerging Player of the League in both Amateur and Professional categories.

 

With the conclusion of this year’s league, the organizers are already setting sights on expanding the tournament for the next season. Plans are underway to involve more teams from across Jammu & Kashmir, enhance training opportunities for participants, and attract even larger audiences.

 

The Women’s Premier League Baramulla is an initiative by Dagger Division under Op Sadhbhavna, to promote women Sports in the region, providing opportunities for female athletes to compete at a high level and develop their skills. Organized annually, the league is part of a broader effort to advance gender equality and empower women through sports. The Women’s Premier League Baramulla aimed to provide a platform for aspiring female athletes, fostering empowerment and encouraging broader participation in sports. The league saw eight professional teams from across the Kashmir region compete fiercely throughout the tournament, reflecting the growing interest in women’s sports across Jammu & Kashmir, also the event witnessed participation of six Amateur teams to showcase their talents and get picked up for professional teams.
