During the course of investigation, a detailed enquiry into the assets of the accused and his family members was conducted strictly in accordance with the provisions of Chapter V-A of the NDPS Act, it reads.

Examination of revenue records, property documents, field verification reports, valuation inputs, and statements of concerned persons revealed that the properties namely one double-storey residential house belonging to the accused’s father and one single-storey residential house constructed on land belonging to the accused’s grandfather but developed by the accused and his family were acquired and constructed over the past 3-4 years, a period corresponding with the accused’s involvement in illicit narcotics trafficking, it reads.

The investigation further established that the known and lawful sources of income of the family were grossly insufficient to justify the acquisition and construction of these properties. The funds used were found to be unexplained, disproportionate, and prima facie derived from proceeds of narcotic drug trafficking, it reads.

Accordingly, based on the evidence gathered, freezing/seizure orders under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act have been issued. These orders prohibit the sale, transfer, mortgage, or creation of any third-party interest in the said properties until further orders from the Competent Authority. The orders were served upon the concerned persons in the presence of independent witnesses, who were also apprised of the legal consequences of any violation, it reads.

Srinagar Police reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combat drug trafficking and to dismantle the financial networks that sustain the narcotics trade by targeting both offenders and the proceeds of crime, strictly in accordance with law. The public is urged to cooperate by sharing credible information to help eliminate the drug menace from society, reads the statement. (JKNS)
