Srinagar July 9: In a thrilling blend of sports and social change, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K kicked off an inspiring Inter-Zonal District Level Football Competition under the powerful campaign “Play for Drug-Free Srinagar.” Held at the iconic Polo Ground, the tournament brings together 144 young footballers (U-17 boys) from all eight sports zones of Srinagar, turning the field into a battleground against substance abuse.
The event began on a heartfelt note, with players taking a solemn pledge to champion a drug-free Srinagar, administered by officials from the District YSS Office. The air buzzed with energy as the community rallied behind these young athletes, proving that sports can be a game-changer in shaping a healthier future. Amirakadal, Gulab Bagh, Hawal, and Batamaloo triumphed over their rivals Nishat, Zaldagar, Eidgah, and Rainawari in gripping matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
The tournament has struck a chord with locals, who see it as more than just a competition it’s a movement to inspire Srinagar’s youth towards positivity, teamwork, and resilience. With the semi-finals set for tomorrow, excitement is building as these young stars aim not just for victory on the field, but for a brighter, drug-free tomorrow.
