KARNAH, JULY 6: In a powerful display of devotion and unity, the Shia Muslim community of Karnah commemorated the holy days of Muharram with deep reverence and a grand mourning procession. The main Jaloos-e-Aza began from Imam Bargah Gundi Syedan and concluded at Chamkote, drawing hundreds of mourners from across the region.
Dressed in black, mourners paid tribute to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), by reciting marsiyas and nohas, and performing chest-beating rituals. Cries of “Ya Hussain” echoed through the air as the procession moved solemnly through local hamlets, upholding the sanctity and peaceful spirit of the occasion.
Religious scholars and community leaders addressed the mourners at key points along the route, emphasizing the enduring message of Karbala a stand against oppression, injustice, and falsehood. The themes of sacrifice, truth, and unwavering faith resonated deeply throughout the observance.
The local administration, along with community volunteers, ensured smooth conduct of the event. Security personnel, medical teams, and drinking water stations were stationed throughout the route to assist participants. Youth volunteers played a pivotal role in organizing and maintaining discipline during the procession.
Reflecting the valley’s rich tradition of communal harmony, both Shia and Sunni residents of Karnah came together in a spirit of solidarity. People from various sects extended support, reinforcing the cultural bonds that unite the region.
The procession concluded in Chamkote with special prayers for global peace, justice, and the oppressed.
Muharram in Karnah remains more than a religious observance. It is a living testament to resilience, unity, and the everlasting legacy of Imam Hussain.
