Doda, June 27 (JKNS): In a significant move to uphold secular principles and ensure social harmony, the District Administration Doda has imposed a complete ban on the usage of non-vegetarian meals in all schools, colleges, and educational institutions across the district.

As per the circular issued by Deputy Commissioner Doda, as per news agency JKNS, the decision follows multiple representations from parents, stakeholders, and community members who raised concerns over the use of school kitchens for preparing non-vegetarian food, particularly during school events and retirements. The circular noted that such practices could potentially lead to communal sensitivities and the exclusion of certain students from mid-day meals.

“It is enjoined upon Principals / Heads of all schools, colleges, and educational institutions of District Doda to adhere to the directions,” reads the order dated 27-06-2025, bearing reference number DCO/PA-01/25/639-77.

The order lays down two clear directives, Complete ban on non-vegetarian food No preparation, serving, or distribution of non-vegetarian food items in any form is allowed in educational institutions.

No social exclusion Concerned officers must ensure that no student or community member is socially excluded from institutional gatherings due to dietary preferences.

The circular underlines that such steps are essential to safeguard the secular fabric of society, prevent discomfort among beneficiaries, and ensure equitable governance respecting all cultural and religious practices.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, SSP Doda, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Principals of GDCs, Tehsildars, ZEOs, and school heads for strict implementation. The Chief Education Officer, Doda, has been specifically directed to ensure compliance and supervision of the order across all institutions. (JKNS)
