JMC conducts anti-encroachment drive in Old City Jammu; Seizes 5 trucks of encroached material

JAMMU In compliance to the directions issued by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in PIL No. 27/2017, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), on the instructions of Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav today carried out a massive anti-encroachment drive in the old city areas.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (R&E), Subah Mehta and was assisted by the Chief Revenue Officer, Enforcement Officers of JMC and Police personnel.

The areas covered during the drive include Shalimar, City Chowk via Purani Mandi Central Basic Higher Secondary School, Ram Mandir surroundings, Purani Mandi, Raj Tilak Road and Parade to Indira Chowk,.

During the drive, over five truckloads of material that have been displayed outside business establishments or spread on footpaths for sale were seized.

The business owners, rehriwalas and pheriwalas were sensitized on the importance of maintaining clear pedestrian pathways and unobstructed vehicular movement. They were warned against placing goods beyond their shutter lines and were informed that repeated violations will lead to sealing of the establishments, as per the High Court directions.

The shopkeepers were also advised not to place tables, counters or any goods beyond the shutter lines and rehriwalas and pheriwalas were instructed to operate only in designated zones, avoiding covering of footpaths and roads.

JMC reiterates its commitment to ensuring encroachment-free public spaces in the interest of public safety and urban order.
