Karnah: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Karnah, Javed Ahmad Mirchal, met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and expressed his gratitude for the tireless efforts that led to the approval of the Sadhna Tunnel. He stated that this tunnel had been a longstanding demand of the people of Karnah, and its approval marks a significant development.
The tunnel, to be constructed on National Highway 701, will be 7 kilometers long and will cost ₹3,330 crore. With the construction of the Sadhna Tunnel, all-weather connectivity between Karnah and the district headquarters of Kupwara will become possible. This will significantly reduce the hardships faced by the residents, especially during winter, and improve access to essential services.
MLA Mirchal described the project as a “revolutionary step” and said that the Chief Minister has always prioritized the development of remote and border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
On this occasion, Qaiser Jamshid Lone, MLA from Lolab, also met the Chief Minister and highlighted the demand for a similar tunnel for the Machil area. He urged the Chief Minister to take up the proposal with the central government so that year-round road connectivity could also be ensured for the Machil sector.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured that the government is committed to providing better road connectivity to border and remote areas and that the issue of the Machil Tunnel will also be taken up seriously with the concerned authorities.
