Srinagar, June 23 (JKNS): Srinagar Police have detained two individuals for putting up US and Israel flags in the Balhama area to disrupt peace and communal harmony, a police statement said.
The arrests followed a swift investigation based on credible inputs and visual evidence. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend a third suspect as police reaffirm their commitment to maintaining order.
Police spokesperson in a statemwnt issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Srinagar Police have detained two individuals for affixing foreign flags in the Balhama area during night hours in an apparent attempt to disturb public peace and order.
Acting on credible inputs, including visual evidence indicating the installation of United States and Israel flags, Srinagar Police launched a prompt investigation using various techniques and ground-level verification, it reads.
During the course of investigation, 6–7 suspects were identified and questioned. Sustained interrogation led to the confirmation of involvement of three individuals, it reads.
The accused have been identified as, Mohsin Ali Dar, S/o Ali Mohammad, R/o Balhama, Bilal Ahmad Dar, S/o Mohammad Yousuf Dar, R/o Dar Mohalla, Balhama, Amir Ali Dar, S/o Manzoor Hussain, R/o Khazir Mohalla, Balhama, statement reads adding that two of the accused have been detained, while strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the third.
The act is being seen as a deliberate attempt to provoke public sentiment, disturb communal harmony, and propagate anti-social narratives. Legal action under relevant provisions of law has been initiated, it reads.
