Srinagar, June 23 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association celebrated the 78th International Olympic Day with a Canoe Marathon and Run for Peace at the Pokhribal Water Sports Club.
The event embodied the true spirit of Olympism, bringing together athletes and water sports enthusiasts to highlight teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, while showcasing the growing potential of water sports in the region.
The participating athletes delivered captivating, high‑energy performances, demonstrating precision, endurance, and competitive spirit that inspired the spectators. The Association expressed its heartfelt gratitude to renowned water sports player Bilquis Mir for her continuous support and invaluable guidance to budding athletes. Mir recently earned the historic distinction of becoming the first Indian woman to serve as a jury member at the Olympics.
Highlighting that water sports remain the highest medal‑winning discipline in J&K, the Association reaffirmed its commitment to providing strong national and international platforms for athletes.
