Srinagar, Jun 14 (JKNS): In view of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2025, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Anantnag Mubashir Jan convened a key meeting with the transporters of Pahalgam route to review readiness and streamline transportation management for the pilgrimage.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated, the meeting was held with representatives of Stand No. 1 (with around 500 vehicles) and Stand No. 2 (with 630 vehicles), both of which cater to the Nunwan–Chandanwari stretch. ARTO Jan confirmed that all vehicles have been declared roadworthy and that drivers are experienced in ferrying pilgrims during past Yatra seasons.

The meeting focused on enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safety and timely movement of Yatra vehicles. Transporters raised the issue of fare revision, stating that it had not been revised for four years despite a rise in operational expenses including fuel and maintenance.

A major concern highlighted was traffic congestion on the steep and narrow road between Nunwan Base Camp and Chandanwari. Transporters urged authorities to restrict haltage of private and RTC vehicles along this route to maintain smooth and safe movement of Yatra-bound vehicles.

The transport associations also suggested that Langar (community kitchen) vehicles must be instructed to return immediately after unloading material at Chandanwari in order to avoid unnecessary blockage on the narrow road.

Highlighting the importance of coordinated ground action, ARTO Mubashir Jan stressed on the crucial role of Traffic Police and J&K Police in ensuring uninterrupted movement of Yatra vehicles. He said their integrated presence would ensure route monitoring, prevent unauthorized stoppages, and handle emergencies.

The ARTO assured transporters that all their demands and concerns would be forwarded to the District Administration and SANJY authorities, and necessary action will be taken to facilitate a safe, smooth, and well-coordinated pilgrimage. (JKNS)
