Jammu : Fruit Plant Nursery Chakroi R.S. Pura has developed a wide range of mother blocks of elite fruit cultivars and hi-tech protected cultivation structures.
The Fruit Nursery has mother blocks of elite cultivars of Mango, Citrus, Guava, Apple Ber, Dragon fruit and Hi- tech structures, Insect proof net structures, screen houses.
This was revealed during a visit of a team of officers led by Joint Director Horticulture Gul Syed to the Nursery Tuesday. District Horticulture Officer S Perminder Singh, Manager Cum Chemist Sunil Mahnori, District Horticulture Officer Abhinav Gupta, Subject Matter Specialist Entomology, Zia Ur Rashid and Horticulture Development Officer Pardeep Dingra were part of the team.
The team inspected the ongoing activities and conducted a comprehensive analysis of mother blocks.
The Joint Director emphasized on the selection of suitable rootstock and best quality bud wood for the production of fruit plants suitable for high density plantation. The team also inspected protected cultivation structures and laid emphasis on production of good quality citrus plants of different cultivars with special focus on lime plants owing to its high demand.
The Joint Director asked the concerned officers to utilize the organic waste available in adjoining dairy farms for making organic manure, which will not only fulfill the nutrient requirement of the nursery stock but also generate income for the owners of these far flung areas.
