Baramulla: In a proactive initiative to combat plastic pollution and promote environmental consciousness among youth, Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla on Thursday launched its World Environment Day 2025 campaign titled ‘Ending Plastic Pollution Globally’ with a district-wide Cyclothon across various YSS zones.
The campaign will feature a series of eco-friendly events and awareness drives leading up to June 5, observed worldwide as World Environment Day.
The Cyclothon witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across the district, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
In YSS zone Dangerpora, the event began at HS Brath-e-Kalan and concluded at Bus Stand Brath-e-Kalan, where 45 students pedaled for the planet.
Zone Singpora Pattan organized a vibrant Cyclothon that saw the participation of 48 girls and 80 boys, exemplifying inclusive engagement in environmental advocacy. Similarly, YSS Zone Dangiwacha conducted a massive event under the same campaign banner, drawing in 170 boys and 155 girls from both government and private institutions.
In Zone Singpora Kalan, 190 students actively participated in a Cyclothon, spreading awareness on the dangers of plastic pollution. Meanwhile, YSS Zone Chandanwari hosted a spirited Cyclothon that involved 130 students, further reinforcing the district’s united stance on sustainability.
YSS Baramulla is committed to nurturing environmentally responsible citizens and fostering a culture of ecological stewardship among the youth. Through this campaign, the department aims to instill a lasting sense of responsibility and awareness regarding the urgent need to reduce plastic use and embrace sustainable living.
