Jakarta: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and visiting French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday called for an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid.
President Prabowo welcomed Macron at the State Palace, where the two leaders discussed a range of issues.
“We agreed to coordinate with each other in upholding respect for international law,” President Prabowo said during a joint press conference following their meeting.
According to Prabowo, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts toward Palestinian independence as a sovereign state.
“Indonesia views only a two-state solution, the independence of the Palestinian nation, as the only way to achieve lasting peace,” he stated.
Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia would recognize Israel’s sovereignty and establish diplomatic relations if Israel acknowledges Palestine’s independence.
Both Indonesia and France, as conveyed by Prabowo, urged Israel to open the widest possible access to Gaza, allowing humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
