4 drug peddlers arrested in Sopore, Contraband substances also seized: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Sopore and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that based on receiving specific inputs Police in Sopore launched a series of well-coordinated operations leading to the arrest of four drug peddlers and seizure of narcotic substances, including codeine-based syrup and brown sugar-like substances. Police in its statement further said that in the first operation, Sopore police arrested a drug peddler namely Rameez Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Hassan Mir R/o Adipora Sopore alongwith 13 bottles of codeine-like substance with tampered labels at Adipora Crossing. Stating that in an another operation, drug peddler namely Waseem Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Hassan Mir R/o Adipora Sopore was arrested at Malpora-Warpora Crossing and brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession Police in its statement further said that
moreover, at Chijhama Crossing, two suspects identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohammad Subhan Bhat, and Rayees Ahmad Baba S/o Bashir Ahmad Baba, both residents of Marzipora were arrested while transporting codeine-based substances in a truck bearing registration number (JK05E-4845). Police in its statement furthermore said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police
in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reiterated its commitment to eradicate the drug menace from the society and safeguard the lives of the youth, appealing people therein to continue supporting police by reporting drug-related activities in their localities.
