Srinagar, May 24 (JKNS): Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness a significant change in the prevailing weather pattern from today, offering relief from the ongoing spell of intense heat and dry conditions.
Director MET Dr Mukhtar Ahmad as per news agency JKNS said that on May 24, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with intermittent brief spells of rain and thundershowers across many areas of Kashmir division and scattered places in Jammu division. A few places may also experience gusty winds and intense showers.
From May 25 to 26, weather conditions are forecasted to be generally hot and dry. However, there is a chance of a brief spell of light rain at isolated places, mainly during the late afternoon hours.
Between May 27 and 31, brief spells of rain or thundershowers are expected at scattered to many places across the Union Territory. Some of these events may be accompanied by intense showers and gusty winds.
According to the advisory issued by the MET Centre Srinagar, there will be a respite from the ongoing heatwave, with maximum temperatures expected to fall by 2–3°C at many locations starting today. The advisory also mentions the possibility of thunder and gusty winds at a few locations over the coming days.
Residents have been advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and prepare for temporary weather disturbances. The forecast is a welcome development for the region which has been reeling under prolonged dry and hot conditions.—(JKNS)
