Pulwama: Continuing its intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign under the NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, District Administration Pulwama in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office Pulwamaon Thursday started a dedicated school outreach initiative.
The outreach is aimed at sensitising young students about the ill effects of drug abuse and nurturing a culture of awareness, resilience and positive change among the youth.
Awareness sessions were held simultaneously in various government and private schools across different zones of the district, with active participation from students, teachers, school heads, and officials from departments including Education, Health, and Social Welfare.
Resource persons engaged students through interactive lectures and real-life case discussions highlighting the psychological and social consequences of drug abuse. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of preventive education, developing a positive mindset, and the role of youth in acting as change-makers within their peer groups and families.
Medical experts from the Health Department explained the early signs of addiction and the importance of timely intervention, while school counsellors and educators encouraged students to adopt healthy coping mechanisms; stay focused on their goals and seek help whenever needed.
Students enthusiastically participated in discussions and took a collective pledge to lead a drug-free life and to spread the message within their communities.
The outreach initiative is a crucial component of the district’s broader strategy to extend the reach of the NashaMuktAbhiyan to every segment of society. With a large number of awareness activities already conducted at the Panchayat and Municipal levels, the school campaign marks a significant step towards involving youth in building a drug-free Pulwama.
The campaign will continue in the coming days with more educational institutions being covered, ensuring that the message of prevention, awareness, and support reaches every student in the district.
