5 drug peddlers arrested in Awantipora & Kulgam, Contraband substance recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team from Police Post Toll Plaza headed by Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Kaigam Crossing, intercepted two suspects identified as Mayser Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh. Mohammad Sheikh R/o Ladermar, Arshid Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh. Mohammad Sheikh R/o Gadibal Handwara Maidani Chugal Handwara , adding therein that during search, 315 grams of Charas like substance (in shape of Sticks) was recovered from the possession of the said accused. Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR Number 119/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Awantipora besides initiating further investigation.
Stating that a police team from Police Station Pampore headed by SHO Police Station Pampore DySP(P) Shravan Singh under the supervision of SDPO Pampore at a checkpoint established at Kadlabal Pampore, intercepted two suspectss identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir@ Fir Codein S/o Gh Hassan Mir R/o Kadlabal Pampore and Sahil Shafi Khan S/o Mohd Shafi Khan R/o Dalgate Srinagar Police in its statement further said during search, 2.25 grams of Brown Sugar like substance and cash ₹12,000 (proceeds of narcotic crime) were recovered from the possession of the said accused who were subsequently arrested. Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No 57/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pampore besides initiating further investigation.
Stating said that in Kulgam also a police team from Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling at Mirbazar noticed a suspect carrying a bag, who on noticing police party, tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Police in its statement further said that during search Charas powder like contraband substance weighing 518 grams filled in the said bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Naikoo S/o Sanaullah Naikoo R/o Kachpora and also subsequently arrested. Police in its statement further said that a case has been registered under FIR No. 94/2025 under section 8/20 NDPS act at Police Station Qazigund besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their areas and warned that those involved in drug trafficking will be dealt strictly according to the law.
