Shahid was involved in multiple attacks including the April 8 firing at Danish Resort that injured two German tourists and a driver, the May 18, 2024 killing of a BJP Sarpanch in Heerpora, and is also suspected in the February 3, 2025 killing of a TA personnel in Kulgam, he said.

The second slain terrorist has been identified as Adnan Shafi Dar, son of Mohammad Shafi Dar, resident of Wanduna Melhora, Shopian. He joined LeT on October 18, 2024, and was involved in the killing of a non-local labourer at Wachi, Shopian on the same day. The identity of the third terrorist is being ascertained, the officer added.

Earlier, the operation began after security forces received intelligence about terrorist presence in the area.

A tight cordon was established, and during the search operation, forces came under fire, triggering a fierce gunfight, they said. (JKNS)
