Poonch : Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal on Monday chaired a meeting to assess the performance of the Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry Departments in the district.
The meeting focused on implementation of schemes, operational challenges, and the status of key initiatives under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
The Officers from twin departments presented detailed updates on departmental activities, with special mention to the execution of HADP initiatives for Dairy Development, Poultry Development, Fodder Resource Management, and Artificial Insemination, besides integrated sheep development projects, ATMA and CSSs.
The Deputy Commissioner called for effective grassroots implementation to ensure the benefits of these schemes reach every eligible beneficiary.
Reviewing the registrations on the DAKSH portal, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for increased enrollment and timely completion of courses by farmers. He directed that the DAKSH Kissan lecture series be translated into Gojri and Pahari to improve comprehension and outreach among local communities.
The meeting also evaluated progress on Kisan Credit Card (KCC) saturation in the Dairy and Poultry sectors, with the DC instructing officers to aim for 100% coverage of farm-operating families. Commending the district’s strides in poultry hatching initiatives, he urged continued focus on capacity building and farmer support.
Under the National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP), the Deputy Commissioner set strict timelines for target achievement and called for aggressive awareness campaigns to educate livestock owners about the benefits of artificial insemination.
Reviewing the achievements under the Sheep Husbandry sector, the Deputy Commissioner assessed ongoing field activities including dipping, vaccination, breeding, and fodder seed kit distribution. He directed for the establishment of first aid camps along migratory routes to ensure timely veterinary support for nomadic herders during their seasonal movement to highland pastures. He also emphasized full implementation of the four HADP linked projects under Sheep Husbandry.
Lastly, the Deputy Commissioner instructed both the departments to meet the set targets for the financial year 2025–26 in a time bound manner. He stressed the need for robust awareness campaigns and interdepartmental coordination to ensure smooth execution of schemes and effective delivery of services to the grassroots.
