Jammu: Police in Jammu on Monday said that a major crackdown on illegal mining has been carried out under Operation Ploughing, resulting in the seizure of 10 vehicles and machinery across the South Zone in the last 48 hours.
The operations were conducted under the close supervision of SP South, SDPO East, SDPO South, and overall direction of SSP Jammu. The effort targeted environmental violations and unauthorized mineral extraction activities.
A major enforcement drive by Police Post Phallain Mandal led to the seizure of seven tractor trolleys and one dumper engaged in illegal mining. These vehicles were intercepted while transporting illegally extracted material. The District Mineral Officer (DMO), Jammu has been duly intimated further legal action. Seized one tractor trolley loaded with boulders and one JCB involved in riverbed mining from the Tawi river were seized. The prompt response prevented further ecological damage, and the matter has been forwarded to the DMO for proceedings. Similarly Police Post Gadigarh seized one tractor trolley used for transporting mined material illegally following which appropriate legal steps were initiated in this connection. In a statement issued here on Monday about the illegal mining activities Jammu Police appealed people to report any illegal mining activity to the nearest police station, stressing therein that community vigilance is crucial for protecting natural resources and ensuring legal compliance.
