Srinagar: A delegation of the Kashmir-based Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIK) led by its President Tariq Ghani, Senior Vice President MM Hussain, and other members met Divisional Commissioner Kashmir at his office on Tuesday to discuss several pressing issues in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident.
During the meeting, the delegation emphasized the need for responsible reporting by national media, urging them not to sensationalize the incident and to respect the sensitivity of the situation in the Valley.

The CCIK delegation also welcomed the official statement which clarified that off-beat tourist destinations have only been closed temporarily and will be reopened soon. They appealed for the hotel staff at these locations to be allowed access to maintain and protect properties during the closure period.

Concern was also raised about the safety of truck drivers transporting essential goods from Kashmir to other states. The delegation demanded adequate protection for these drivers, as well as for Kashmiri students and businessmen residing in different parts of the country, who they said should not be targeted or harassed.
The delegation further proposed that students who had returned to Kashmir due to safety concerns and missed their examinations should be given an opportunity to appear in re-examinations. President Tariq Ghani also stressed the importance of ensuring all necessary safety measures for incoming tourists to restore confidence in Kashmir as a safe travel destination. The Divisional Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured full support and cooperation from the administration.
