Srinagar, Apr 22 (JKNS): On Tuesday afternoon, Four terrorists launched a brazen attack in Pahalgam, unleashing a barrage of gunfire at unsuspecting tourists. Armed with AK47 rifles, the assailants included two local Kashmiris, who had undergone training in Pakistan.
The two locals had crossed into Pakistan for training in 2017, returning alongside the final contingent of foreign terrorists. Security sources confirmed to news agency JKNS, they wore khaki uniforms and remained in the area for over an hour before fleeing.
Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists demanded identification from tourists before opening fire. The attack took place in Baisaran Valley, a frequented tourist destination, where visitors typically traverse the meadow on horseback.
At least 26 individuals perished, and many others sustained injuries. This assault stands as one of the deadliest in recent memory. It occurred amid the ongoing visit of US Vice-President J.D. Vance to India.
A female tourist made an urgent call to the police control room at 2:45 p.m., reporting gunfire in the area. Law enforcement, along with CRPF and Army personnel, rushed to the scene. Witnesses indicated that certain tourists were specifically targeted before being shot.
“This is the most catastrophic attack on tourists in Kashmir’s history,” a source remarked. “The indiscriminate firing led to numerous fatalities. Some tourists were even disrobed, though the rationale behind this remains uncertain.”
