Srinagar, Apr 23 (JKNS): An infiltration attempt by suspected terrorists was foiled by alert Indian Army troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Army sources told news agency JKNS that 2 to 3 unidentified terrorists tried to sneak into Indian territory through the Sarjeevan area near the Uri Nala. Troops deployed at forward locations detected the movement and challenged the infiltrators, leading to a brief but intense exchange of fire.
“Troops intercepted the terrorists near the LoC, triggering a firefight. The operation is currently underway and further details will be shared as the situation evolves,” a defence official said.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and a search operation is in progress to track down any remaining militants who may have retreated into the dense forest terrain.
This infiltration bid comes at a time of heightened alert across Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. (JKNS)
