Budgam: In a first of its kind mobile initiative, the ‘Democracy on Wheels’ Election Van, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme was on Tuesday flagged-off from Government Degree College, Budgam under the flagship outreach campaign of the Election Commission of India.
The Van, flagged-off by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam Akshay Labroo, marks a unique addition to the electoral process, which blends accessibility with innovation. This event was initiated under the supervision of Chief Electoral Office J&K, J&K Bank & District Administration, Budgam The Election Vanity Van is set to traverse across both urban and rural areas, carrying with it registration forms and electronic devices besides powerful messages of civic responsibility, democratic values, and equal representation. More than just a vehicle, this Van symbolizes inclusivity, awareness, and active participation in the democratic process. It reaffirms the commitment of the Election Commission of India to ensure that no voice goes unheard and no voter is left behind.
Speaking on the occasion, DC said the Van will serve as a one-stop destination for all election-related queries, simplifying the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process and making it more transparent and accessible to citizens across 27-AC of Budgam. He said SSR activities are currently underway in full swing across the 27 Budgam Assembly Constituency. DC said the initiative aims to encourage eligible voters to register, modify or update their voter details and ensure a more inclusive electoral roll. ACR Budgam, Afroza Bano, who also serves as ERO for Assembly Constituency 27 Budgam spoke on the importance of every citizen’s vote. Special Secretary in the Chief Electoral Office Manzoor Ahmad, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kashmir, Muhammad Altaf Zullah and officers from the District Election Cell Budgam, senior Officers of the district, principal, staff and students of the college also participated in the proceedings The District Administration urges all residents of Budgam to engage with the SSR campaign, visit the Vanity Van during its scheduled halts, and contribute to the strengthening of our democratic fabric.
