Beijing: The Taiwanese Defense Ministry said on Thursday that they had detected 34 aircraft and 6 vessels of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) over the past 24 hours.
“34 PLA aircraft, 6 PLAN vessels and 2 official ships operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today [22:00 GMT on Wednesday],” the ministry said.
The ministry noted that 14 out of 34 Chinese aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone.
Taiwan has been governed independently of mainland China since 1949. Beijing views the island as its province, while Taiwan, a territory with its own elected government, maintains that it is an autonomous country, although it has stopped short of declaring independence. Beijing opposes any official contacts by foreign states with Taipei and considers Chinese sovereignty over the island indisputable.
