DDMA Srinagar Issues Advisory, Urges Public to Avoid Water Bodies Amid Weather Forecast

Srinagar: In view of the adverse weather forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, the district administration has urged people to exercise caution, particularly near water bodies including River Jhelum, its tributaries, and various Nallahs.

As per the advisory, issued by CEO District Disaster Management Srinagar a copy of which lies with News agency JKNS reads, In view of the inclement weather with forecast of rainfall and accompanied with thunder/gusty winds from 18th evening onwards till 20th April late a/n., by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Srinagar Station, the people of the District in general, and those residing on the Left and Right Banks of River Jhelum its tributaries and Nallahs in particular are advised to refrain from venturing in and around these water bodies.

Advisory further reads that, the Tourists, local Shikara Wallas, Sand Miners, and Boat Crossing Points for travel at Dal Lake and River Jhelum and other water bodies shall not attempt to cross before verifying the condition and situation of these water bodies.

The general public can contact District Emergency Operation Centre Srinagar, Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Srinagar and Police Control Room Srinagar for any information or the Police Control Room at the following helpline numbers: 0194-2457543, 0194-2483651, 0194-2457552, 112, and 0194-2477567, it reads.

It is important to mention that the meteorological department has predicted moderate to heavy rains and snow across Jammu and Kashmir starting from evening of April 18 to April 20. (JKNS)
