Baramulla: In a bid to strengthen grassroots-level sports and promote mental fitness among students, the Youth Services and Sports, District Baramulla on Wednesday organized Inter-School Chess Competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 boys across Zone Wagoora and Zone Pattan.
Zone Wagoora marked the beginning of this year’s inter-school sports calendar by hosting a Chess Competition for Under-14 boys at High School Watergam. A total of 24 schools participated, showcasing the growing enthusiasm among students for mind sports.
Similarly, Zone Pattan launched its sports activities with Chess Competitions for both Under-14 and Under-17 boys at Alhuda Public School. The Under-14 category witnessed participation from 60 students, while 20 students competed in the Under-17 category.
DYSSO Baramulla applauded the active participation of students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the field staff for smooth conduct of the events. He emphasized the importance of such competitions in developing strategic thinking, discipline and healthy competition among the youth.
