Udhampur: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Monday held public meeting at Kotla Morh, Udhampur to get an appraisal of grievances of the locals.
The public meeting witnessed the participation of several deputations and representatives of the area who sought redressal of their issues.
A delegation of the area complained of irregular water supply saying that they are facing tough time due to absence of a sustainable water supply. They demanded corrective measures to be taken in view of the approaching summer season that raises additional demand for water, both for domestic and agricultural purposes.
Another delegation demanded implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) to empower the forest dwelling communities. They complained that implementation of FRA has been slow and uneven with various challenges hindering its full potential.
Similarly another delegation demanded upgradation of infrastructure under Tribal Sub Plan for accelerating the socio-economic development of Scheduled Tribes. They demanded that development funds should be allocated to ST populations in proportion to their size, covering various aspects of tribal life.
Rana gave a patient hearing to the issues raised during the event saying that the government is committed to the welfare of people. He assured the locals that all their genuine demands will be resolved in a phased manner.
