Kisthwar: Security forces on Saturday said that three terrorists were killed during an ongoing anti-terrorism operation in the dense Chhatru forests of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir.
They said that a cache of arms, including an M4 carbine and an AK-47 rifle, has also been recovered.
Briefing reporters at the 5 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters as per news agency JKNS Brigadier J.B.S. Rathi, Commander of the 5 Sector Assam Rifles, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shridhar Patil of the Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban Range said that the operation was launched on April 9 following credible intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Brigadier Rathi said that the joint operation, being conducted by the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and the J&K Police, has been ongoing despite severe weather and rugged terrain.
“One terrorist was gunned down on April 11, followed by the killing of two more on April 12.” He said.
“The recoveries made from the encounter site include an AK rifle, an M4 rifle, and other war-like stores. The identities of the neutralized terrorists are yet to be confirmed,” Brigadier Rathi added.
DIG Shridhar Patil stated that the region remains under a strong security blanket, with comprehensive search operations continuing to ensure there are no remaining threats.
“The operation is progressing in a phased manner to thoroughly clear the forested terrain and ensure the safety of our personnel,” he said.
He emphasized that this operation is part of a larger, coordinated counter-terrorism strategy in Jammu’s sensitive districts.
“In view of recent threats, we have enhanced surveillance measures across Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur. Cutting-edge technology like drone monitoring, facial recognition tools, and vehicle scanning systems are being deployed to monitor suspicious movements and prevent infiltration,” DIG Patil said.
The officials also appealed to the local population to remain vigilant and immediately report any unusual activity to the security forces for maintaining regional peace and security.—(JKNS)
