Bandipora: As part of IEC campaign against drug abuse under Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri on Thursday presided over an awareness programme at Government Degree College (GDC) Bandipora.
Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the pivotal role of parents in identifying early symptoms of drug abuse and emphasized the importance of vigilant monitoring in combating the menace.
He stressed on promoting strong social values and bonding among youth to prevent them from falling prey to substance abuse.
“Children are the future of our society and it is imperative for them to uphold moral and social values to secure a healthy and progressive future,” DC added.
Qadri said that the district administration is conducting a series of IEC campaigns at the panchayat level on every Monday and in municipalities and educational institutions on every Thursday, focused on vulnerable age groups to raise awareness at the grassroots level and ensure effective rehabilitation of individuals affected by drug addiction.
DC encouraged students to actively participate in awareness initiatives and act as ambassadors in spreading the message against drug abuse among their peers, families and localities.
On the occasion, resource persons from various departments deliberated on the social, economic, and medical impacts of drug addiction, highlighting the collective responsibility in eradicating this social evil.
The programme witnessed the participation of the Principal GDC Bandipora Prof. (Dr.) Gazala Firdous, college faculty, students, and other concerned.
It is worth mentioning that, under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, district administration Bandipora on Thursday organised similar IEC campaigns across municipalities and educational institutions throughout the district to strengthen the fight against drug abuse.
