DODA: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department today organised a Zonal Level Girls Kho-Kho Tournament under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ program in Assar and Gundna Zones.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh to promote girls’ participation in sports and foster empowerment through physical activity.
In Zone Assar, the tournament was held at Higher Secondary School Khaleni by DYSSO Pritam Singh, and the host school Principal Nazia Munshi.
Meanwhile, at Zone Gundna, the tournament was declared open at Higher Secondary School Mohalla by Principal Kuldeep Singh and ZPEO Gundna Shashikant Manhas.
The inauguration ceremonies were marked by encouraging speeches and a vibrant display of sportsmanship.
More than 200 girl students from the schools of twin zones participated enthusiastically in the event, demonstrating determination, teamwork and athletic spirit. The tournament aimed to not only showcase sporting talent but also reinforce the message of gender equality and education for girls.
At the conclusion of the tournament, trophies and medals were awarded to the winners and runners-up, celebrating their achievements and encouraging continued participation in sports. The event stood as a testament to the growing enthusiasm among girls for athletic competition and the strong support from educational and administrative institutions in Doda.
