Srinagar : Following the blooming spectacle of mustard fields, the Karewas of Pampore—famously known as the Saffron Town—are now witnessing a new wave of tourist influx, captivated by the vibrant spread of wild tulips that have transformed the landscape into a floral wonderland.
With the golden-yellow mustard blossoms forming a vivid backdrop, the soft hues of pink and white wild tulips have created a mesmerising contrast, drawing both tourists and locals to the elevated plateau lands of Pampore.
The scenic fusion of colours has turned the Karewas into a photographer’s delight, with many visitors halting along the national highway to admire and capture the ethereal beauty.
Witnesses said that the blossoming wild tulips have become a major seasonal attraction. Travellers are increasingly making impromptu stops at the Pampore Karewas, enchanted by the natural charm of the tulips swaying gently in the spring breeze. The flowers have also become a favuorite backdrop for photo shoots and nature walks.
Local youth, traditionally engaged in the sale of world-renowned Kashmiri saffron to visiting tourists, say they are now witnessing thousands of people thronging the saffron fields—not just for the prized spice, but to witness the wild tulips in their full spring glory.
School excursions to the fields are becoming common, with students delighted by the opportunity to connect with nature in such a picturesque setting.
Vishnu, a tourist from Kerala, described Kashmir’s natural allure as unmatched. “This place truly lives up to its name—paradise on earth. While autumn in the saffron fields is breathtaking, spring brings a different magic with these tulips in bloom,” he said.
Rahul, a visitor from Uttar Pradesh, said. “I was compelled to stop my car. The sheer beauty of the Pampore Karewas, now adorned with these elegant tulips, is simply irresistible,” he remarked, while expressing his admiration for Kashmir’s serene landscapes.
Tourists expressed that Kashmir remains a welcoming and safe destination for travellers from across India. They urged fellow citizens to witness the enchanting tulip bloom in Pampore and explore the valley’s other stunning locales.
They also praised the region’s warm hospitality and called it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
Meanwhile, officials revealed that the tulips growing in Pampore’s saffron fields belong to the species Tulipa Stellata—a naturally occurring perennial herb from the Liliaceae family.
This unique botanical species is characterised by six identical floral segments, including three petals and three sepals, contributing to its symmetrical and captivating appearance.
The emergence of these wild tulips has added another dimension to the biodiversity and touristic appeal of Pampore’s saffron-rich Karewas, further cementing the region’s reputation as a jewel in Kashmir’s natural crown
